We have our breakfast on the way, we start our tour with our guide in Seyitgazi, which is approximately 25 km from Eskişehir. Battal Gazi, whom we know from the movies, participated in the siege of İstanbul with the Umayyad army in the 8th century and was unsuccessful. Then Seyit Battal Gazi, who came to Eskişehir and fought against Byzantium, made Elanora, the daughter of Byzantine Tekfuru (Byzantine Governor) fall in love with him. The tomb of Battal Gazi, who was martyred in the Messiah Castle in the hands of Byzantium, was discovered years after his death in the Seljuk Period and a magnificent complex was built on it. Today, Seyit Battal Gazi and Elanora, who became a Muslim out of love for him, are sleeping together in this complex. During our visit to Battal Complex, we see the Tomb of Battal Gazi and Elanora, the Mosque of the Seljuk Period, the çilehanes, the madrasa, the soup kitchen and the bakery, and then we go to the top of the observation hill and take a break for tea and coffee. Afterward, we reach Yazılıkaya, the most important work of the valley, whose geological structure resembles Cappadocia, shaped by the lava erupted by the Türkmen Mountain. Today, we see rock monuments dedicated to the Phrygian Mother Goddess Cybele and other thousands of years old archaeological remains in the 2800-year-old settlement from the Phrygian period, where Circassians, Caucasian immigrants, lived. Located in Yazılıkaya Village, the 17 m high Midas Monument carved from the largest rock in Anatolia, the Kırkgöz rocks that contain the Roman Period rock tombs, the unfinished monument from the 6th century BC, the Phrygian rock cisterns that meet the water needs of the city, the Phrygian type traditional tombs and the ancient road where thousands of years old ruts can be seen, with the narrations of our guide. After the dusty roads of ancient history, we are moving to Eskişehir. We walk through the colorful streets where we can see the historical Odunpazarı houses built in traditional Ottoman residential architecture, which Evliya Çelebi praises in his travel book, and the Kurşunlu Complex, which was built in the 16th century and includes a mosque, mevlevihane, tabhane, matbah-ı sherif, madrasah and caravanserai.
